Biem Kikkert (Amsterdam, 03-05-1952)

1969 - 1974: Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam. Teachers:  Herman Gordijn, Melle, Ap Sok, Jan Elburg.  

Techniques: oil painting, watercolor and lithography.

Inspiration: My style of painting has developed into a way to observe reality and to improvise, even play with it. I have to be open minded and receptive to all kinds impulses. Painting is just accepting the actual inspiration and make my own choice about what elements should remain or have to be altered. To suggest things to imagine is as important as painting them for real. This way the whole of the composition is not disturbed by details and the spectator’s imagination is able to contribute to the artwork itself. To combine images within images is an effect I often use. It symbolizes the unity of the macro and micro cosmoses as well as the energy of what is. And that may be what art is all about: connecting spirit and matter.
